If information at The Newswriter’s disposal is anything to go by, the Mayor of Port Harcourt City Mayor, Hon. Chimbiko Iche Akarolo may be impeached before the expiration of his tenure in 3 months time. Councilors ambushed him following what they described as the chairman’s highhandedness and insensitivity to the lawmakers and electorates”.
A competent source within the Legislative Assembly revealed that fear of impeachment had made the chairman not only to stay away from office but to also instruct the Leader of the House against sitting.
The source disclosed that Mayor Akarolo does not relate fine with any of the councilors and party stalwarts in Phalga.
The demand for the past 2 years income and expenditure of Akarolo’s administration has allegedly griped him with fear hence his staying out of office and ordered the stall sitting for the past 3 months.
The Newswriter further gathered that in 3 years of Akarolo’s regime, there had been no single project embarked upon except the Mayor’s Lodge and uncompleted Legislative Chamber.
The councilors ambushed the Mayor for failure to implement any of the projects nominated by the councilors, as Constituency projects even as they lack offices for effective services for over a year.
The source further accused Akarolo of not keeping to his promises, adding that the purported 15 APC councilors are not true as 10 of them have concluded arrangements to defects back to their root, the PDP, release any fund neither to his councilors nor party faithful during the APC registration, therefore increasing the anger of the councilors who are ready to move for his removal from office.
According to the information, Phalga was among the local government areas that does not record success during the APC’s registration.
The councilors who vowed to resist the temptation of backyard settlement in the course of removing the mayor are calling on the electorates in Phalga to equally resist the Mayor’s quests for coming as the next Caretaker Chairman of the council.
Furthermore, Akarolo was accused of pursuing his musical business other than his official duties and never cares to pick anybody’s phone call.
Meanwhile, Elders Owuepele Thugwell and Amadi Ichemati are calling on the state governor, Chibuike Amaechi not to accord the unpreforming Mayor the honour of returning to PHALGA council as Caretaker Chairman or substantive second term appointed chairman.
The Newswriter political checks are beaming its searchlight on Phalga and would educate its numerous readers on the next action. ###
