Henry Kalio: Ten Years Gone Already

SPORT WRITER

Funny as life could be as death snatched the foremost sports writer and presenter, Henry Kalio, without regards hence throwing a challenge to sports writers across the Niger Delta to fill up the big shoes he has left in the sounds of time.

Henry Kalio was a fine sports writer and presenter, who took sports writing with passion. He died while covering Sharks away match.

When you talk of Nigeria grassroot football, then you have called Henry Kalio. There is no corner of the country that Kalio will not or had not traveled to in pursuit of covering sports (football matches).

Before his untimely death on the 7th of March 2004, Henry Kalio was the chairman of Rivers State sports writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) while presenting the famous award winning sports program on Rhythm sports 93.7 in Port Harcourt.

Ten good years have gone since he departed this sinful world to the great beyond. Sports writers in the name of fairness ought to have given this hardworking son of the sports reporting business. Rhythm 93.7 fm should as a matter of fact slate out a special programme to mark his ten anniversary as a mark of respect to honour and remember his great exploit with sports writing and reporting in this part of the world.

What Rhythm sports is enjoying on air today is his own personal creativity and idealogy. He set the pace for other radio stations to envy.

But sad enough, those handling his own created sports program now ignore him at his death at ten years (10 years).

The Rivers SWAN too should have packaged a program to have immortalized Henry Kalio. But ten years gave nothing is done to remember one of their own; this is betrayal of hardwork and trust.

Henry Kalio is gone and will not return to do his sports presentation business but the legacy he has left behind while he lasted on earth, will forever speak volume and challenge sports writers and presenters of the present generation as no sports writer or presenter, though he is ten years gone could not be compared to Henry Kalio.

The Newswriter sports will always remember you, Henry Kalio for your valuable contribution to sports writing and presentation business while you lasted. Adieu brother Adieu Henry Kalio.  ###
