Acting Governor of Taraba State, Garba Umar has said that some of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) governors who defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress, (APC) would soon return to the ruling party.
Governor Umar disclosed this at the weekend when Osaro Onaiwon, the Director-General of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) under the leadership of Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang led some journalists on tour of the state.
Recall that five PDP governors had last November dumped the PDP for APC. The governors were Rotimi Amaechi, Murtala Nyako, Abdulfatah Ahmed, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Aliyu Wamakko, Rivers, Adamawa, Kwara, Kano and Sokoto states respectively.
Umar hinged his hope on the recent reconciliation efforts being pursued by the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ahmed Adamu Muazu and certain concerned PDP elders.
“The PDP governors are solidly behind Mu’azu. I believe that even those friends of ours that decided to defect; he is making efforts to make sure they come back because this (PDP) is their home anyway.
“You cannot leave your home and go elsewhere because you are going to meet a new man there. What hope do they even have there? Even our neighbours there are now finding it difficult.
“At the end of the day, I believe Ahmed will do his best and I believe even all of them do not come back some of them will come back to their home.”
Governor Umar who also said that President Goodluck Jonathan would pick the party’s ticket for the 2015 presidential election and ultimately win, was, however, silent on his governorship ambition.
“The chances of PDP in my state are very bright and I think in the whole North this is the only state you can find Mr. President’s posters by now. That shows you that Taraba is for PDP and PDP is for Taraba.
