2015: Ijaw Governor Is A Must – IDF

The Ijaws have declared that the demand for an Ijaw governor in Rivers State come 2015 is non-negotiable.

The national co-ordinator of Ijaw Democratic Front (IDF), Comrade Kenneth Robinson stated this while speaking to newsmen, shortly after the commissioning of the association’s secretariat in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Comrade Robinson said that an Ijaw governor in 2015 is uncompromisable and a must.

He expressed optimism that the Ijaws in Rivers State will produce the next governor of the state come 2015.

According to him, the uplanders have ruled the state more than fifteen (15) years, stating justice demands that, the next governor must come from the Rivers Ijaw.

“We have been deputy governors and also deputy speakers and speakers. What we want in 2015 is not less than a governor of Rivers State,” Comrade Robinson said.

His words, “Perhaps, the most critical objective of the IDF is canvassing for the emergence of an Ijaw man or woman as the next elected governor of Rivers State. Rivers State as we all know is comprised of two distinct geographical parts  the mainland/upland area and the riverine area transverse with rivers and creeks, swamp and mangrove forest, mostly inhabited by the Ijaws. Unfairly, only persons from the main/upland areas have governed Rivers State since partisan politics was reintroduced in 1999,” Comrade Robinson asserted.

“We cannot continue in the same way, we have been living, it is time to tell the power brokers, it is our time,” Comrade Robinson posited.

He had earlier thrown his weight behind President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for second term in office calling on the president to declare his ambition and interest and run for the 2015 presidential election.  ##
