Winner of Eko 2013 first Rivers State Gold Medal, Edward Osim has won the gold medal in the 9th Garden City cycling champion on Sunday 9th of February.
The second place was won by Caleb the Lalizibe of Rivers State and the third place went to Nelson Bassey. It was as both male and female swept the medal table.
In the female category Rita Agwu claimed the gold medal; Odiage Glory for the second time went home with the silver medal while Tombara Dappa won the Bronze medal. All from Rivers State cycling Association.
16 states and 6 clubs participated in the championship with a lot of differences attached to this year’s edition as visual device was tagged in each athlete before participating to checkmate cheating.
The first placed athlete was given N200,000 with a trophy, N150,000 picked by the second placed athlete with a trophy and the third placed athlete carted away with N100,000 and trophy.
12 lapses were done by the males and females 8 lapses, summing up to 9.2km for the men while 60.8km for the female.
Director of Sports while addressing the athletes advised Edward Osim to keep the fire burning as the Rivers State sporting family is looking on him to do the State proud at Paradise Games at Calabar come November 2014.
Chairman of Rivers State Cycling Association Pastor Alex Enebeli on his part maintained that his athletes and association will keep improving as long as competition is organized on monthly and quarterly basis for his athletes. ###
