Efforts to capture the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) dominant and controlled Andoni LGA by the opposition, All Progressives Congress (APC) is in top gear as the state Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Renner Ikuru is expected to lead his teaming supporters to the area for the registration of the APC, as Governor, Amaechi has handed all registration materials for Andoni to him.
A chieftain of the APC and former caretaker chairman of the local government area, Hon. Esuku M. Esuku who disclosed this to The Newswriter said as the Deputy Governor, Ikuru is the leader of the party at the LGA level and all eyes are on him now to lead the party to registration and election proper.
The APC chieftain who also defected from the PDP to the Action Party of Nigeria (APN) and later to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and now APC, said the APC is on a mission to correct the imbalances created by PDP by trying to return power back to Northern Nigeria in search of peace.
He maintained that at the demise of Late President Musa Y’adua, the PDP would have allowed the North to produce the next president in stead of the south-South.
“In the spirit of the party’s ideology, we in the Andoni LGA are fully prepared to carry out our membership registration as to give us the backing of belonging to a party, where we can exercise our voting right in due course,” Esuku stated.
According to Esuku, the registration which was slated for Wednesday February 5th, through Monday 10th 2014 will be led by the leader of its party in Andoni, who he said is the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Ikuru and calling on the people to register enmass.
Meanwhile, the member representing Andoni state constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikunyi-Owaji Ibani has called on the people of Andoni to remain steadfast since Andoni is not known for anything opposition, saying that a card carrying member of a political party is partisan and must remain obligatory to its party.
Ibani, who is the Chief Whip of the State Legislative Assembly, recalled how the PDP brought electricity and other projects of achievable feet to the area.
He said in 2015 Andoni will attain a greater height than where it is today, adding that no card carrying member of a party will further register in a new party of no forms and base.
Meanwhile, investigations have revealed that there is a big gulf between the Deputy Governor, Ikuru, and the Council Chairman Orom Nte Ereforokuma over the registration of membership.
At the time of filing this report, the Deputy Governor was at the disposal of the registration materials while chairman’s camp was still hoping of help from elsewhere.
The misunderstanding between the Deputy Governor and council chairman is arising from the constitution of its Wards and LGA exco, which according to the information the Deputy Governor has faulted the already drawn list by the chairman.
Impeccable source told The Newswriter that Governor Amaechi and leader of APC in the state have already handed the registration materials to his deputy for Andoni.
