RSUST Bans Sales Of Handouts, Unapproved Text Books

PROF. B. B. FAKAEThe Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nkpolu Oroworokwo, Port Harcourt, Prof. Barineme Fakae has called on well-meaning Nigerians to fund the educational sector.

Prof. Fakae made the called at the  32nd Matriculation Ceremony of the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor submitted that University Education should not be left in the hands of the government alone rather individuals who have excelled in their chosen endeavor.

Prof. Fakae further explained education of ICTs in the enhancement of education in the country, while calling on the students to brace-up to use of the computer system as part of their learning process.

The University Don advised the polytechnic counter-parts not to use strike as the only avenue to settle disputes but look for more appropriate channels.

He advised that education cannot be mixed with politics because right now the University of Science and Technology has moved forward with more focus.

On the challenges of the university Prof. Fakae called on the number of past graduates to assist in the funding of the university not to leave everything in the hands of the government.

If the University education is left on the budget of government only little percentage of development could be realized.

“All over the world people now partner with government to fund education for the good of the society” he said.

Earlier in an address presented at the occasion the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barineme Fakae said the institution has banned the sale of handouts and unapproved textbooks as the school has over the year developed academic programmes comparable to those in other countries.

He stated that the university has a zero tolerance for examination malpractices and other social vices and the senate will sanction while advising to take their studies seriously he explained that over 588 student asked to withdraw for academic failure.

Highlight of the event was the award of prizes to best students in the various faculties 2012/2013 year to encourage others. ###
