2015: SNYC Supports Southern Presidency

PRESIDENT GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHANA socio-political group known as the Southern Nigerian Youth Council (SNYC) has advocated for the emergence of Southern president in 2015.

The National President of the Council, Comrade Temple Morford who made this known while addressing a cross section of the members of the association in Port Harcourt, on Sunday, called on the northern politicians to give all necessary support to their southern counterparts to produce the next president of Nigeria.

Comrade Morford said that since the political independent of Nigeria, the northerners have been producing the president of the country, therefore justice and equity demand that the southern geopolitical region should be given the opportunity to do same in 2015 and beyond.

The National President pointed out that his association cuts across the South-East, south-West and the South-South geo-political zones, and aimed at uniting the southerners so as to take their rightful position in the scheme of things.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the meeting, the National President of SNYC, Comrade Morford highlighted the objectives of the Council which include: to seek for employment creation and generation, provide skills acquisition training programme for the southern youths, provide free education/free medical treatment to all southern people, to ensure youth participation in the formation of government and policy implementation programmes, to provide infrastructural/capital development in the southern states, to support the need for adequate security of life and property.

Others are: to abolish human rights abuse, eradicate religious, political and social violence in the country, implement various committee reports for the development of the southern part of the country especially the Niger Delta region, ensure alleviation elevation, promote peace, unity and justice in the country, and to increase participation of southerners in the local content bill.

Comrade Morford who had earlier called on the people of southern Nigeria to sink their differences and forge ahead in order to attract development into the region, urged the Governors from the southern states to judiciously use the resources accrue to the states from the federation account for the transformation of the zones.

The National President revealed that there are moves to organize a peace conference between the north and south to eradicate violence in the country.

He said the planned conference is necessary for the actualization of the southern President come 2015. ###
