Lawn tennis stalwarts have commended the sponsorship of the Nestello Gateways tennis tournament, the Nestello Gateways tennis tournament is an annual lawn tennis tournament sponsored by the chief executive officer of Nestello Gateways group of company Ltd, chief (Sir) Ernest Elochukwu.
The tournament is usually being hosted and played at the Port Harcourt club 1928 lawn tennis section.
Speaking at the event, the sponsor and chief executive officer of Nestello Gateways Group of Company Ltd, Chief Ernest Elochukwu ably represented by a Director in the company, High Chief Lord Mike Ezedimora expressed happiness over the succesful completion of the tournament and also laud the organizers and sponsor of the tournament, saying he has done a good job by sponsoring the tournament annually without fail.
This year’s edition is the 5th edition in the series. Chief Ezedimora hinted that the game of tennis provides a good atmosphere for tennis enthusiasts to interact; it is also a game folks could embrace for their smooth health benefit as it provides fitness opportunity to all and sundry. He added that the corporate organizations and well-to-do individuals could also help government to promote the game and other sports in the state.
He assured that the request made to assist players of late Tonye Harry tennis academy would be communicated to the sponsor when he comes back from his journey.
Captain of the section, Emma Obiora, in his remark in the presentation of prizes to winners of prizes was full of praises for Chief Ernest Elochukwu’s noble gesture in sponsoring the competition and bringing tennis players together.
Captain Obiora, however, assured the members that his administration is always open and ready to provide a conducive atmosphere for recreation and promotion of tennis in the state.
Chairman of the organizing committee of the tournament, Comos Ntemuse on his remark stated that he is not surprised that the tournament is a huge success and the prizes won at all the six categories are worthy of mention.
He also commended the sponsor for sponsoring the tournament annually without fail, commending him to use tennis to create fun and bringing members of the tennis section together annually.
In court one Chijioke Amu-Nnodi emerged winner, William Ibiba in court two, Hon. Fubara Imangs in court three while Emma Afangide beats Karibi George to claim the veteran prize award at the finals.
The tournament that came to a close last week Sunday, saw former Nigerian number one tennis player, Sunday Maku beating his brother Kunle Maku to claim the major trophy competed for. ###
