A Port Harcourt based grassroots sports promoter, Martins Odum has tasked government at all level to support grassroots sports activities with the view of discovering hidden talents for the country.
Mr. Odum made this appeal to the government while speaking to The Newswriter Sports in the 4th edition of Wakirike Peace and unity soccer tournament kick-off at Okochiri in Okrika Local Government Area over the weekend.
Martins Odum is the president of Noble Allstars football club of Port Harcourt and had been useful in sponsoring and promoting many grassroots sports activities, ranging from soccer to other grassroots sports in the state.
According to Martins Odum, both the federal and the state government could support and promote grassroots sports to create employment for the teeming unemployed youths in the society, adding that sports is a huge employer of talents as many hidden talents are found in the grassroots, in all the local governments of the state.
He applauded Chief Comrade Ateke Tom for single handedly sponsoring and discovering hidden soccer talents for Nigeria premiership clubs.
He mentioned sharks football club of Port Harcourt forward and super Eagles home base invitee, Christian Pyagbara as one of the lots that was discovered from Ateke Tom sponsored soccer tournament.
He also said that others are also playing in other Nigeria Glo sponsored premier clubside in the country, hence he said, if the government could lean it helping hand in sponsoring and supporting grassroots sports, it will not only promote peace and unity in the society but create employment to lots of youths as sports is the greatest employer of talents, pinpointing that it is in the grassroots that one has the real raw talents, he concluded. ###
