The Rivers State contingents will leave for Abuja for the forthcoming first Abuja U-17 National Youths Sports Festival today.
The National Sports fiesta will take centre stage from 5th of December to 15 as participants from the 36 State depart their various states from 5th of December to Abuja.
Speaking to our sports newsdesk, the Public Relation Officers of Rivers State Sports council Barisi Wifa disclosed that the aim of the U-17 youths national fiesta is to curb age cheating in sports as well as to have a formidable sportsmen and women in replacement of the aging national athletes.
He stressed that the national sports competition is not all about winning medals but targetted or aimed at selecting the athletes that will compete for the country with the right age at international meets hence curbing the age cheating saga. Barisi Wifa hinted that apart from the U-17 national youths sports festival is a experimental selection, Rivers State is prepared to feature in the fiesta with respect as all the sports Rivers State will be partaking in. ###
