International Organization of UN Volunteer Holds Summit

Port Harcourt City recently witnessed a massive summit/enlightenment campaign and registration exercise of members into United Nations Volunteer Roaster.

The exercise was carried out by the International Organization of UN Volunteers.

In his opening speech, the President General of the body, Meshiyach Yahzitere Okoh enumerated on the profile, aims and obligations of the organization.

Meshiyach Okoh accounted that the International Organization of UN Volunteers one of the Non-Governmental Organizations that has been accepted into the database of NGO branch of United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

He continued that the aim of the body is to enlighten and commit good spirited people into the act of Volunteerism as provided by the United Nations Volunteer Act.

The organization achieves such aim by registration of members into United Nations Volunteer Roaster where they will received a UN accreditated number as volunteers.

The body continues assistance to the members with sound education on how to manage the status as may equally include preparation of fortunate ones on foreign assignments.

On political problems that ensue globally, Meshiyach Okoh pointed out that one of the root causes of conflicts by political leaders is their total lack of orientation on volunteerism.

According to the group leader, a political leader must see himself as a volunteer who aims at serving the masses but not as self-centred person whose interest ends at the personal aggrandizement.

He maintained that majority of our leaders are self-centred having no interest of the masses they claim to lead. Their most concern is to divert the allocations to their personal accounts for sake of themselves and their generations yet unborn.

The group leader maintained that if the level of quest for power is corroborated by the good service from the political leaders there must

never be high rate of unemployment any where in the world.

The group leader put it this way, “What we often seen in the world is self profiteering by politicians but nothing as rendered service or volunteerism. Political leaders loot public treasuries and save them for themselves while the youths languish in unemployment and poverty.

The next thing they do is to strengthen the police force whom they use to be checking the activities of those hungry youths and to arrest and harass them at little or no provocation”.

In his contributions, the spokesman of International Association of World Peace Advocates AMB, Emmanuel Nkweke submitted that there is urgent need for the world to embrace the UN Volunteer project since self-centerism has failed to address the multiple problems of mankind.

Other speakers in the occasion encouraged the political leaders and the masses to embrace the spirit of volunteerism since such will help to better the world.

According to the body, you do not carry out volunteer act only when contracted by UN, but as an individual, one can carry out selfless service in his or her domicile and report back to UN through profile updating.

The occasion was graced by registration of some intending volunteers into the Roaster.
