INEC Urged To Create More Wards, Units In Degema

Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke Aka Mr. Vote Count has called on the National Electoral Commission, INEC and relevant authorities to create more wards and polling units in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State before the bye-election in the Degema constituency.

Ambassador Nkweke made the call while in a chat with journalists in Port Harcourt.

According to him, this became necessary to enable Degema people participate actively especially the forthcoming Rivers State House of Assembly bye-election to replace Late Rt. Hon Tonye Ezekiel Harry, the former speaker of the State Legislature stressing that the existing political units and wards in Degema Local Government Area are insufficient to guarantee free and fair election in the area.

According to him, our organization has reported the insufficient wards and unit to INEC and we are waiting for their reply.

Amb. Nkweke who is also the leader of the all observers in 2011 general election in Rivers State stressed that his organization the Nigeria Vote Count will commence ward to ward programme as to ascertain the strength of the political wards in Degema LGA.

Amb. Nkweke frowned at the irregularity that characterized the Anambra November 16, 2013 gubernatorial election.

According to him, there were late arrival of electoral materials, missing ballot boxes, names, ballot papers among others.

Amb. Nkweke who is also a prominent personality in the civil society organization and a pro democracy activist said for election to be free and fair in Nigeria there must be civic education which INEC fails to maintain in Anambra governorship election which lead to the failure of the election and advised the INEC to turn a new leave to enable Nigeria elections be free and fair in the subsequent elections. ####
