Rehabilitating Roads In Rivers State

Road are essential in the socio-economic development of any state. Good roads undoubtedly facilitate easy movement, especially in the transportation of agricultural products from the rural areas to the urban cities. One of the factors militating against economic growth is non-availability of access roads. In Rivers State in as much as the Governor, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is embarking on the construction of some roads in Port Harcourt, most of the access roads are dilapidated and some abandoned. For some months the contractor handling the access road linking IIaobuchi to Eagle Island has abandoned the site. This road if completed would help to ease the traffic chaos in the ever busy Ikwerre road by Agip round about. Most of the roads within the Agip Federal Estate are impassible residents are groaning in pains while plying the roads.

The road leading to Okochoko Community in Etche Local Government Area is totally in  bad shape. Also there are no roads in Oyigbo Local Government Area.

The main painful aspect of this a journey which suppose to last 20 minutes will take up to 2 hours. Government and relevant authorities should look critically to ensure that our roads are in good condition.

Beside the economic value of good roads, one of the basic reasons why we are witnessing road accident on daily basis is as a result of the bad condition of our roads. Let the Government start doing something to correct the ugly situation. ###
