The leaders of the outlawed militant group, the Niger Delta People Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Alhaji Mujahid Asari- Dokubo, has been arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
He was arrested between 1:00 and 2:00p.m, by the country’s gendarmes (Police Force) on Tuesday.
According to information, he was picked up around the Lubeleyi roundabout and taken to an unknown destination.
A human rights activist and lawyer, Festus Keyamo, confirmed his arrest.
A statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Keyamo expressed concern about his arrest,
The statement said: “We want to emphasis that Alhaji Dokubo-Asari carries on legitimate business and has been living partly in Benin Republic for many years now.”
Asari has already established a private university in the Benin Republic. The university is named after his ancestor, King Amachree.
In his recent interview with newsmen, Asari declared that, he decided to establish the higher institution in Benin Republic, because he did not only live there, but adopted it as his country.
