INC President, Sekibo, Slumps, Dies at 70

The President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Senator Tari Sekibo, has passed on.

Sekibo, 70, was said to have slumped on Monday while waiting, along with other INC Executive members, to see the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, at the State House in Yenagoa.

He was said to have been rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, few meters away from the Government House, where he was officially certified dead and his remains deposited in the hospital mortuary.

An astute politician, Sekibo who hailed from Okrika in Rivers State and was the Chairman of the Unified Okrika Divisional Council of Chiefs, was elected INC President on March 6.

He was earlier elected to the Senate in the aborted Third Republic and in 1998, the Federal Government honoured him with a National Award as a Member of the Federal Republic (MFR).###
