Mono Rail, A Colossal Waste
The major statutory function of a responsible government is to embark on aggressive developmental programmes and policies that would turn around the fortunes of the masses.
Government that really meant business for its people has developmental plans which doubtlessly give clear direction on how to achieve its goals for the interest of the masses.
Therefore, any government that does not exhibit ideas that will not advance the progress of its citizenries is not fit to exist in the modern society.
Society has developed to a stage that human beings irrespective of their race, colour and belief are due for decent living.
In view of this, we shall applaud the Government of Rivers State under the watchful leadership of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for his giant strides. The governor has done much in the areas of road constructions, primary health care delivery, education amongst others.
In as much as we appreciate the performances of Governor Amaechi, we are not comfortable with the on-going construction of the multi-billion colossal mono-rail project in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area. This project as we were rightly informed has engulfed billions of naira from the State Government’s confer.
The mono-rail in our mind is not supposed to be a priority project of River State Government at this time, considering the economic needs of the people. We think that money channeled to the construction of the white elephant project (mono rail) should be directed to more economic viable projects. There is nothing to celebrate about the on-going construction of the monorail, which we seen as a colossal waste of public fund. ##
