Information reaching our political desk had revealed that Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi might support a dreaded ex-militant, Comrade Farah Dagogo to occupy the vacant seat of the Delga Constituency in the Rivers Assembly.
The Delga constituency seat became vacant following the demise of its occupant, Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry on the 4th of October, 2013. Late Harry has been on the seat since the emergence of the present political dispensation in 1999.
From what we are reliably gathered, Governor Amaechi is not only the one supporting Farah, also the chairman of the Degema Local Government Area, Alhaji Ibigoni Daddy Pokima. The repented militant was one of the sole sponsors of the Delga boss, while contesting for the chairmanship seat on the platform of the defunct Democratic Peoples Party (DPP). Alhaji Pokima though lost but gave tough time to Chief (Hon.) Abiye Davies of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Our investigation disclosed that with the current leadership of the leading PDP, the Governor may not have the strength to sponsor any candidate for the vacant seat on the PDP platform.
Farah as we were told has commenced consultations. The ex-militant is from Tombia community and currently he is an undergraduate in the University of Port Harcourt in the faculty of Social Sciences in the Department of Sociology.
Meanwhile, the People of Harry’s town said that they should be allowed to complete their tenure since the Assembly seat was zoned to the community.
According to them any attempt to field any candidate outside the community is tantamount to injustice and betrayal. ###
