Suspected gunmen have killed a staff of the Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The 35 year old worker was said to be a cousin to the Special Adviser to the President on Research and Documentation, Mr. Oronto Douglas. He was shot dead at Agudama area of Yenagoa shortly after the final match of the Under 17 World Cup won by Golden Eaglets of Nigeria.
The deceased who hailed from Okiki community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Byaelsa State was until his death the financial secretary of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).
According to eye-witness account, the incident happened just few metres to his house, where he had gone to jubilate with other soccer-loving Nigerians.
The gunmen were said to have hid in an uncompleted building before they allegedly pumped bullets into his body and took off.
The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Hillary Okpara, who confirmed the incident, said the police have apprehended a female suspect.###
