We Shall Confront the Police Now In R/S- Amaechi …Why I danced at Okrika

MBU JOSEPH MBURivers State Chief Executive Officer, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has said that, he would no longer canvass, protest or fight for the removal of the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu, rather confront him headlong especially in the forthcoming general elections in 2015.

Governor Amaechi made this open declaration at the Government House while publicly hosting the leadership of All Progressives Congress, APC in Port Harcourt, on Tuesday.

Governor Amaechi used the occasion to call on all Rivers Citizens to brace up to the challenges to confronting the police in Rivers State, saying that it may begin on a day to be scheduled for the formal declaration for the APC or PDP expected to hold at the Liberation Stadium, Elekahia, Port Harcourt.

The number one Citizen of the State also used the occasion of the APC rally in Government house to buttress his reasons for the public dancing at the burial of Mrs. Charity Oba at Okrika.

According to him, there were plans to stone him on arrival at the scene but surprisingly he was not touched hence his dancing to the glory of God.

He further said, there were plans to remove him from office but he was still serving the state, therefore his reasons for jubilation to shame the enemies.

“You will wonder why I have been dancing at the burial at Okrika. Let me tell you why; they said they will remove me from office and uptil today I am still in office serving Rivers People, so I was dancing to the glory of God.

“Secondly they said I cannot go to Okrika, they will stone me but I entered Okrika, nobody stoned me, I raised hand they hailed me, I raise leg they applauded me, so I have to dance openly to the glory of God to shame the enemy” Amaechi stressed.

The governor who was unequivocal in his speech recalled that the failure of his detractors to remove him from office informed the decision to bring Mr. Mbu whom he described as a political Commissioner of Police to do the biddings of his supporters.

The meeting at Government House according to the leadership of the APC was aimed at wooing Governor Amaechi to lead his supporters to join the APC.

Chief Bisi Akande, the leader of APC who described Governor Amaechi as a bundle of courageous leader said they were in Rivers State to woo Amaechi to join the APC in other to move the country forward, since he is a progressive.

“We have come to Rivers State and have seen the stuff with which governor Amaechi is made of. He is a bundle of courage; from the way he react to issues it shows he is intelligent. We have come to woo him to join APC.”

According to Akande, if Amaechi is unpopular he would not have gathered this crowd, he would not have won his election as governor of the state, so we have seen him against the propaganda on the radio and television stations.” Akande said.

Meanwhile, Amaechi has said he would consult with stakeholders including the president of the federation before making his decision known, noting that the fact that the president having come from the South-South zone makes him a peculiar governor amongst the 7 governors.  ###
