The Essence of National Dialogue

President Goodlcuk Ebele Jonathan on October 1, 2013 while addressing the people of Nigeria to mark the nation’s 53rd Independence anniversary announced the readiness of his administration to convoke a National Dialogue. The President to prove his preparedness to organize a National Confab, he constituted a 13 man Committee headed by Senator Femi Okouronmu. The Committee is expected to design a framework and come up with recommendation as to form structure and mechanism of the processes of the proposed National Conference within six (6) weeks. Before this time, there are several calls for the convocation of the Sovereign National Conference due to the developmental challenges, corruption, favouritism, injustice and other social vices facing the nation.

The essence of the National Confab, we think is to put to an end several questions such as true federalism, states creation, lopsided development, power sharing formular, religion tolerance amongst others that is confronting the corporate existence of the nation. Since the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan declared his intention to organize the National Dialogue, some Nigerians are in support of the President’s desire, while others kicked against it. But whatever the circumstances, the nation needs a National Dialogue in such a time. We are optimistic that the proposed National Conference will address so many problems facing the country.

We applaud the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for his initiative to come up with the idea of organizing a National Confab. Let us plead with every Nigerian both at home and Diaspora to support the president’s laudable project /National Dialogue at this time of our national development.

We hope that at the end of the proposed National Conference Nigeria will be well structured in all ramifications. ###
