Worried by the crisis rocking the Degema Local Government Area chapter of the Grassroot Development Initiative GDI, the former Chairmanship aspirant on the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the area, Mr. Inye Marshall Harry (Jr) had waded into the crisis in view of restoring normalcy and sanity among the members of the group. On Monday, Mr. Marshall Harry led hundreds of members of the GDI in DELGA to the National Secretariat of GDI, Tombia Street, New G.R.A, Port Harcourt to inform the leadership of the group that Delgans have resolved to propagate the ideals of the GDI.
At the GDI National Secretariat, Marshall Harry met with some National Officers of the association including, the Secretary-General, Hon Samuel Nwanosike and the vice President of GDI, Hon. Paul Kobani.
Shortly after the closed door meeting the two Principal officers of the GDI, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike and Hon. Paul Kobani in their separate speeches thanked the people for their peaceful disposition and assured them of better GDI formation in Degema.
In an address presented on behalf of the people, Hon. Peter Jacob Frank applauded the Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the ruling PDP, Hon. Felix Obuah and Supervising Minister For Education, Chief (Barr) Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike for their leadership qualities and resolution to liberate the people of Rivers State from poverty.
The Delgans regretted that because of what they call “infighting among self acclaimed leaders,” the Delga wing of the GDI is unable to organize its thanksgiving service and chapter inauguration.
The address reads in part, “The self acclaimed leaders are only 10% of the people if at all, so thus because so imperative that GDI Delga had to reconcile themselves and live up to realities. Grassroot Development Initiative (GDI) is a freedom fighting association and therefore cannot encourage imposition of unpopular leadership. We are appealing to Mr. President and other officers of GDI to allow the Delga chapter people to settle their differences by themselves. Sir, without boring you with too many words. We wish to remind you that this Delga seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly elections will be the very first test for GDI in electoral matters. In light of the above, we wish to state that everything possible must be done to stop such unpopular self-acclaimed leaders who are making moves to lead us into doom”.
The Delgans promised to ensure effective harmonization of all existing factions “to bring forth a formidable GDI chapter that can stand the test of time.” They appealed that possible date should be considered by the national leadership so as to organize their thanksgiving and inauguration.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the meeting, Mr. Inye Marshall Harry attributed the crisis rocking the Delga GDI to greed and inordinate ambition of some self-seeking politicians.
Marshall Harry who denied nursing any political ambition for now, said that his reason of identifying with GDI is to ensure good governance in the state and also to support President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term ambition.
He expressed optimism that with the formation of GDI, President Jonathan’s second term bid would be a thing of the past.
Marshall Harry had earlier described as “unfortunate, painful and sad,” the sudden death of Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry, the former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. He prayed God that the soul of the departed ex-speaker rest in the bosom of the Lord and further prayed God to give the family of Late Tonye Harry the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. ####
