The Rivers State first Garden City baseball and softball league has commenced on the 14th of September at Isaac Boro Park.
According to the organizers, the first game which the pharaohs beat the kangoroos 6-5 was being watched by the Director of Sports Rivers State, and Gen. secretary of Nigeria baseball/softball association an other dignitaries.
The following results were recorded on the second day of the game, being 15th September, (softball) Blue base 5 marlin 4. the next game will be played on the 18th September, Carnegies will take on Titnas.
The competition will run from the 14th to 26th of October, 2013 and promises to be exciting hence the Rivers State Baseball and softball association extends their invitation to the public to have a good time out with baseball and softball at it best.
Speaking to The Newswriter sports, head coach of Rivers State baseball and softball, coach Jacob Dennis Albert-Dede, reveals that talents discovered will be kept together for international competition in the near future. This is first of its kind in Rivers State.
He thanked the Rivers State baseball and softball association for sponsoring the first garden city Baseball and softball boys and girls league at this time of difficulties praying God to reward them immensely.
To the players he charged them to contest favourably as to bring the best of their skill out for future competition.
He also invites those at school age to embrace the game as the sports is an interesting sports that could take them to places, adding that they could also make a living with it, if only they could be focus and be level headed with the sports, he stated. ###
