The accusation by a session of loyalists of the junior Minister for Education, Ezebuwon Nyesom Wike, that Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi, had hands in the abduction of Archbishop Ignatius Kattey, the Lord Bishop of the Niger Delta Ecclesiastical Province, Anglican Communion has been laughed-off by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, loyal to the governor. The pro-Amaechi PDP not only debunked the respective statements credited to the Felix Obuah faction of the ruling party and Barr. Emma Okah, a former Commissioner for Information, in which the Rivers State Chief Executive was linked with the kidnap of the top cleric but Amaechi’s loyalists described the pro-Wike group as a pack of clowns that will never cease to amuse.” According to the statement signed by George Ukwuoma-Nwogba, the elected Rivers State PDP Publicity Secretary, “those clowns would be making good cash had they joined the cream of Nigeria’s comedians who would always feast Port Harcourt residents with their “Night of A Thousand Laugh.”
In the statement, the pro-Amaechi group wondered how Gov. Amaechi would be an accomplice in the crime saying that it was not only a gutter-snipe but an insult on the “person of the governor.”
It reads in part, “These people cannot stop to amuse us in saying that Governor Amaechi knows the whereabouts of our most respected Bishop Ignatius Kattey is to say but the least an insult on the person of the governor. How on earth will these same people who have sworn to make Rivers State ungovernable and promised that the residents would not sleep with their two eyes closed, have now gone ahead to say the opposite.”
Exonerating Governor Amaechi of any complicity as alleged in the statements, Ukwuoma-Nwogba noted “It’s indeed ridiculous for these same people to turn round to accuse our Governor of master-minding the insecurity bedeviling our dear state.”
The statement further argued that “Jerry & co. should rather congratulate their masters for returning the state to its dark days before the advent of the administration of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and chairman Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF. We all can attest to the robust security situation in the state these 6 years until the advent of the present Commissioner of Police.”
Continuing, the statement recalled that even the “National Assembly in their report recommended the re-deployment of CP Mbu Joseph Mbu yet they chose to look the other way. If Governor Amaechi was political what about the National Assembly report that clearly called for Mbu’s removal from the State? The behaviour of these people since stealing the mandate of the people albeit temporarily clearly shows the peace-loving people of the state whom their real enemies are.
“Governor Amaechi is one governor that values life; a devoted catholic and believer in sanctity of life. He swore to protect the life and property of every Rivers man and woman, thus holds our dear Bishop Kattey in high esteem and therefore cannot be seen to do otherwise. Let Jerry & co. together with CP Mbu ensure that no harm comes to the man of God.
