The attention of the office of the Honourable Minister of State for Education has again been drawn to the pasting and ongoing distribution on the streets of Bori, Ogoni, posters of the Honourable Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike purportedly for the governorship contest in Rivers State in 2015.
“We want to reiterate that such action is a deliberate ploy by enemies of the Honourable Minister of State to destroy his well earned reputation and to cause disaffection between him and the people of the area.
The Honourable Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike therefore dissociates himself from such ugly development, describing the circulation of posters with his photograph and name in the area as another failed attempt by the Amaechi administration to deceive Rivers people.
The Honourable Minister had in June this year raised alarm over the uncovered plot to print and distribute posters purporting that he has declared his ambition to contest the governorship election in the state in 2015.
In July some officials of the Rivers State government actually printed posters of the Minister and pasted them in a section of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, which the Minister promptly and outrightly denied knowledge of, as it truly did not emanate from him.
It is therefore not surprising that this wicked and ill-conceived act is being carried out in Ogoni where these enemies feel threatened by his (Wike’s) popularity and acceptance by the Ogoni people.
“We again call on the people to disregard and discountenance such act and content of the posters as they are intended to blackmail and therefore cause friction between Chief (Barr) Nyesom Wike and the good people of Ogoni and the entire Rivers State.
“It is unfortunate that Governor Amaechi and his allies are still playing an uncivilized and vengeful politics, using primitive tactics in trying to destroy someone who is building a united, peaceful and progressive Rivers State.
“We also use this medium to call on all those involved in this malicious act to stop using our state resources in executing retrogressive political initiative that will not do our state and people any good.
The Honourable Minister however wishes to express his confidence in the people of Ogoni who over the years have proved not to be gullible or easily deceived, expressing optimism that their support and disposition for the cause of justice which has kept them together and has sustained their relationship will not be washed away easily by such deceptive work by evil elements.
