PDP Split: Amaechi Justifies Action…Says He Is Still NGF Chairman

Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State has reaffirmed his stance on the NGF election saga, stressing that he won the election.

Amaechi stated this when a delegation of senators under the auspices of Senator’s Forum paid him a courtesy visit in Port Harcourt.

The governor said democracy is all about accepting results of elections, even it they do not favour you.

The senators’ forum led by John Brambaifa told Amaechi that his group has earlier visited Gov. Jonah Jang of Plateau State, with a view to settling the lingering political crises in the NGF and Nigeria Democracy in general.

While thanking the delegate, Amaechi said, “I thank you for coming. It shows how patriotic you are that you think that anything that will settle democracy or affect the progress of democracy in Nigeria must be addressed. You are not under obligations to sort out anything happening in the Nigeria governors’ forum…

I thank you for visiting my friend, the governor of Plateau State. Like you know he did not win the election and if he was sincere, he should have confessed to you that he did not win the election

Senator Brambraifa assured Amaechi that his team will do everything possible to settle the NGF crisis.

Fresh from Abuja after the crisis-ridden convention, the governor reaffirmed his membership of the Kawu Baraje led PDP faction, insisting that the ‘New PDP’ is on a mission to correct anomalies of the Bamanga Tukur led national PDP executive.

“We are on course”, Amaechi told journalists on arrival from Abuja.

Meanwhile the Felix Obuah led PDP State Exco has lambasted governor Amaechi, Senator Magnus Abe, Dakuku Peterside and Leyii Kwanee for supporting the bid to scatter PDP in Rivers State and nationally.

In a statement issued by the SA on media to Obuah, Jerry Needam, the PDP accused governor Amaechi and his group of planning to scatter the party PDP that assisted them got to their pinnacle politically.

According to the statement, the ultimate goal of the fight is to stop President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term bid.

Meanwhile reactions have continued to trail the recent balkanization of the ruling PDP.

Speaking on the matter, an elderstatesman in Rivers State and a stalwart of PDP Anabs Sara-Igbe said governor Amaechi is swimming in a dangerous water that might consume his political career.

According to him, he is pitying the governor for allowing himself to be used as a tool to stifle the second term ambition of President Jonathan and expressed optimism that come 2015, the incumbent President will emerge victorious. Sara Igbe hinged his argument on the fact that incumbents have never lost elections in Nigeria before.

Commenting on the issue, the Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Leyii Kwanee said the fractionalization of PDP was well deserved. The lawmaker said there was nothing wrong with forming a parallel party executive to check the impunity of the current PDP leadership, which he accused of violating the party constitution. He pledged support to the Baraje led new PDP Exco.

The Emohua council chairman, Hon. Allen Nma has also thrown his weight behind the new PDP Exco and pledged his total support for governor Amaechi’s role in the political impasse that has almost crippled the ruling PDP in the country. ####
