The Vice Chairman of Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Mrs. Sonye Onyesoh has called on all elected female councilors and legislative members across the 23 LGAs of the state to remain prayerful and stand by the truth.
Sonye made this call at a recent one day prayer and worship forum, organized by elected female councilors and legislative members in Port Harcourt.
Responding on why they decided to embark on the event, Sonye stated that they have been meeting at their different LGAs, but decided to come together in worship and prayer to commit unto God the recent trend of heating-up of the polity prematurely by some persons, due to selfish interest. Trying to steer out controversy out of nothing in the state.
She maintained that their resolve to come together was to make it known that peace is the best way to go and to stand for the truth, charging her fellow elected members to be prayerful and remain focused in their reasons of being councilors and in the discharge of their duties in their respective LGAs.
The vice chairman however disclosed that they have been reaching out to the youths in their various LGAs through the media and organizing of several sensitization programmes, urging them not to allow themselves to be used as tools for peoples selfish interest and to stand for the truth, peace and to shun unnecessary forms of violence.
Mrs. Onyesoh added that their visit to the motherless and less privileged homes is not something that they should publicize, stressing that they only invited few persons to the event, which is one of an in house event, since some of their members are out of the state for various engagements.
In the same vein, the guest speaker at the event, John Enojoh of City of David international Church, described women as the most powerful people or tools on the planet earth, adding that the word of a woman is more powerful than the power of any nation.
Enojoh maintained that God hears the prayer of women than men, stressing that for peace to reign in any home or offices, that the people must embrace God. He further enjoined the elected women to show more commitment to God just as they are committed to their various political parties. ###
