A new president of Rotary Club of Port Harcourt South has been installed. Isaac Anelechiokike Wodemenem was installed as the 31st President of the organization recently in Port Harcourt.
Performing the installation ceremony, the out-going president Rt. Tony Etteng described Mr. Wodemenem as a worthy ambassador that will take the Rotary club International to the next level.
In his valedictory address, the out-going president Rt. Tony Etteng enumerated the various achievements recorded under his tenure.
He noted that his team of officers were hardworking and committed to the work given to them.
The out-going president said they enjoyed the support of members while in office and they should extend same to the new president.
Mr. Etteng said they embarked on various projects, especially the water project at Federal Government College Abuloma and the campaign against polio, among others.
In his address the new president of Rotary Club Port Harcourt, Rt. Isaac Wodemenem described Rotary as the only NGO in the world with permanent observer status with the United Nations.
The president said that polio eradication is at center stage in Rotary Club, Port Harcourt South because of its devastating effect on the society and tasked every Nigerian to support fight for the eradication of the disease.
Mr. Wodemenem stated that peace and conflict prevention resolution is part of their mandate, especially now that politicians are creating tension among the people through their utterances.
The president maintained that the club under his tenure will provide potable drinking water, in schools and homes to prevent water-borne disease and improve their sanitary condition.
Other areas of concentration he said will include economic and community development that will empower widows in the society and also provide working tools for indigenes who are skillfully trained.
The new president used the occasion to solicit for support among his team and members of the club to achieve the set target.
Rotary Club International has been in existence for over 108 years with the purpose of serving communities in various projects to complement government effort through membership donations and contributions.
In an interview with journalist shortly after the occasion, the president said they will empower the skilled indigenes to provide them with shoe machine, vulcanizing machine, and assist the widows.
He said polio campaign take the centre stage because it is air borne disease and contagious with over 180 cases in Nigeria which have cost the government billions of naira.
Also speaking, Dr. Babatunde Ayodele of Rotary Club, Ekpoma who represented the District governor said the hand over of power was without rancour which indicates the acceptance of the new president and called on all to support him. ###
