PH: Mother To Child HIV/AIDS Transmission Elimination Work Plan Launched

The Rivers State government has convened a health stakeholders meeting on elimination of HIV/AIDS transmission of mother to child elimination work plan.

Gov. Amaechi was represented by Health Commissioner, Dr. Sampson Parker and said that the elimination of the scourge is the issue at hand, and it is in the mind of every son and daughter of Rivers State. He said that money is not the problem as all the commitment expected from Rivers State government has been given.

Urging genuine private registered stores to go to the state central store and have their share with an assurance that they should not sell the drugs, stressing that his ministry believes that HIV/AIDS should be treated like every other sickness.

Three medical doctors presented papers at the event and all urged the general public to make use of the facilities provided by the Rivers State government, saying that many medical doctors have been trained to handle the scourge in the new model Port Harcourt City Medical Centre with highly motivated doctors.

Dr. Okey, one of the doctors that presented paper, charged the public to avail themselves with the opportunity provided by the Rivers State government as SACA is on a vibrant pursuit to eliminate the scourge in partnership with the state government.

The Actlap Children Foundation donated HIV/AIDs drugs to the Rivers state government in their support to eliminate the scourge, through the chief executive officer, Bevis Paul Igbonoba of Actlap Canada.

The Commissioner for Health in a similar meeting within the week had stated that the HIV/AIDs for vaccine drugs are available in all Rivers State Medical Centres, urging the public to register and benefit from the Rivers State kind gesture.###
