Environment Commissioner Advocates Private Sector Participation In Economic Growth

The Rivers State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Nyema Weli has reiterated the importance of private sector involvement, for the growth of any economy.

Dr. Weli made the remark when a delegation of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) team visited him to introduce a Chinese Seismic company, China National Petroleum Company CNPC who would carry out hydro-carbon exploration in Obio/Akpor, Ikwerre and Etche LGAs.

He described Shell as a prominent member of the community of Rivers State who the people run to in term of need, urging them to always observe the norms and laws of the land in carrying out their business activities.

The commissioner who assured the delegates of the cooperation of the people of the state charge the company to submit the project EIA to his office for assessment by the ministry’s professional.

In his speech Boma Alamina, the head Government Affair of Shell disclosed that they were in the commissioner’s office to introduce a seismic company to ensure a safe operation.

Mr. Alamina also said that a sensitization workshop to enlighten the public and the affected communities had started on 15th August, 2013 with Ikwerre local government. ###
