PH: Northerners Raise Alarm Over Burial Fees Increment

Northerners in Rivers State have raised alarm over the incessant burial fees for the burial of their late kinsmen in the Port Harcourt Cemetery.

In a chat with journalists recently in Port Harcourt, Alhaji Sani Seidu the Chief Imam of Gambia Street, Mile 2 Diobu Port Harcourt lamented the alarming increment of burial fees for their late kinsmen in Port Harcourt Cemetery, explaining that the amount in the past used to be twenty thousand naira and later increased to thirty, stressing that it has increased to sixty thousand naira (N60, 000) under the present administration led by Hon. Chimbiko Akarolo, the mayor of Port Harcourt.

Alhaji Seidu who spoke on behalf of the northerners residing in Rivers State appealed to Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to intervene in the matter and urged Hon. Akarolo to reduce the fees to affordable rate, to enable them bury their late brothers and sisters who may have died in Rivers State.

Meanwhile, the Chief Imam of Mile I Mosque Alhaji Abdulsalam Arikeusola the chief imam of Yoruba Community in Rivers State has charged all leaders in the nation to shun all form of bad acts to move the nation forward.

In a chat with journalists during the Ramadan fasting Alhaji Arikeusola who spoke through Engr. Lukman Ola-Lawal while thanking God for the successful ceremony, prayed that Allah should intervene and solve the nation’s problem of insecurity and enthrone peace and unity in the nation.

He commended Governor Amaechi for his developmental stride and for accommodating northerners and strangers in the state.

Others Muslims who chat with journalists in Port Harcourt prayed for peace and unity in the nation and lauded Governor Amaechi for his hospitality and his detribalized gesture and also prayed for  President Goodluck Jonathan as well as Nigerians.
