Kula: Security Agents Avert Crises In R/S Secretariat Complex

Security agents last week averted crises at the Rivers State Secretariat Complex, Port Harcourt when two factions of Kula Community in Akuku Toru Local Government Area engaged themselves in a fracas. It was gathered that the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Community Affairs convened a peace meeting between the two factions of Kula Community at the 11th Floor of the Point Block in the State Secretariat Complex, which turned violent when one of the leaders of a faction ordered the arrest of a member of the other faction.

In an attempt to resist arrest both factions engaged themselves in a free-for-all-fight using dangerous weapons while Chiefs, Elders and youths of the two factions ran for safety as the fight became fierce. The timely intervention of security operatives stationed in the Secretariat complex saved the situation as they shot into the air to disperse the warring factions while Civil Servants and visitors to the Secretariat scampered for safety. Some members of both factions sustained injuries while some furniture and doors at the lobby of the Point Block were damaged.

It would be recalled that a faction of Kula Community had, earlier, embarked on a peaceful protest at the Offices of one of the Oil Companies in Port Harcourt over alleged mismanagement of funds owed to the Community.
