A two day workshop for Directors in the 23 LGAs of Rivers State has come to an end in Port Harcourt.
The event which was organized by the Rivers State Local Govt Service Commission, witnessed delivering of lectures by University Dons with the aim of enhancing capacity and efficiency in service delivery at the local government, through their directors.
It would be recalled that the commission, prior to the directors workshop had already embarked on capacity trainings and workshops for junior cadres in all the 23 LGAs of the state to improve their performances at all times.
Speaking with reporters at the end of the event, Hon. Chief Jonah Tamuno, who represented the chairman of the commission, Chief Nmerukini, said that the event was to upgrade the knowledge of their directors in various areas of their jurisdictions, particularly to acquaint them with the techniques of the contemporary time.
Jonah opined that the request to have a joint retreat with the directors, politicians and other carrier civil servants was accepted, adding that though the chairman of the commission was not there, but believed that as a lover of good things that he will accept the request having been working for the benefit of the LG workers from the grassroots.
Chief Jonah, who is one of the commissioners of the local government service commission advised the directors and other participants at the workshop to make use of what they have learnt and also know that they are representing the entire work force of their LGAs.
Responding, Mr. Reginald Inugba, Head of Local Government, Opobo/NkoroLGA and Mr. Daniel A. Iruene, Head of local government, Bonny LGA, both of Rivers State, expressed optimism that the workshop will go a long way in enhancing the performance of directors in one way or the other. The duo commended the capacity building initiative of Chief Hon. Azubuike Nmenekini, adding that it will help to brush up directors in carrying out their respective duties.###
