Environment Commissioner Solicits Collaboration With Companies To Restore Rivers To Garden City Status

The Rivers State Commissioner For Environment, Dr. Nyema Weli has called on companies operating in the state to collaborate with the state government in achieving their projects aimed at checking the flood, restoring the aesthetic scene of the state.

He also noted that such would go a long way in releasing fresh air on the environment in the state.

Dr. Weli made the call during an interactive session with the Chief Executive Officers of construction companies in the state at his office in Port Harcourt.

According to him, “my reason for inviting you is to find out your challenges, regarding to the Ministry of Environment that regulates dredging of sand and latrines, as well as request that you participate in the Ministry’s mother earth free planting project”.

The Commissioner also briefed them on the modalities of the projects which he said includes free planting of trees, flowers along major roads in Port Harcourt city and economic trees within the household.

The environment boss also told the chief executive officers that his ministry has also solicited the participation of corporate organizations such as Shell, ELF, Total Fina, among others adding that each of them has taken up some major parts of the city.

In their separate responses, the company executives agreed to participate in the programme, which according to Mr. Aidey Suslaich of the RCC Company is laudable.

They requested that the Ministry embarks on sensitization of the people, pointing out that companies have carried out such projects along the constructed road, but that the efforts were not successful, as they were usually destroyed by the people.

Companies that attended the interactive forum includes RCC, LCC, JDP, GITO among others. ###
