The Port Harcourt City Referees Society, Rivers State will be honouring the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Fred Mbombo Igwe, chairman of Gokana Local Government Council, Hon. Deemua Ledee Demua and the Managing Director of NDDC, Dr. Chris Oboh on their grassroots development in sports.
In a text message sent to our sports desk indicates that there will be one day refereeing skills and acquisition and development at Liberation Stadium on the 25th of July, 2013.
According to the message, the time will be 12pm prompt at the VIP hall Liberation Stadium.
Further information has it that seasoned FIFA referee that was in the last Nations Cup and Confederations Cup in Brazil line up will be the guest speakers of the workshop.
The referees society in Port Harcourt city, Rivers State is urging the general public to make themselves available for the free refereeing skills and acquisition and development workshop come Thursday, 25th of July at the Liberation Stadium.
The organizers of the workshop gave reason why the aforementioned personalities were specially picked out of the lots for the special award of grassroots development.
Speaking to our Sports Editor, at the Rivers State Sports Ministry, on Tuesday 23rd July Referee Karika stated that the chairman of Gokana was selected for setting up a well planned stadium to encourage sports talents in his local government council.
For Chris Oboh, he said since he took over as the Managing Director of NDDC, he has not stopped embarking and executing grassroots sports talents hunt programmes, in basketball, football, golf, swimming and others.
And for the Hon. Fred Igwe, since he came into office as Rivers State Sports Commissioner sports programmes have increased hence putting the state sports record on the fastest lane of progress.
According to the organizers of the workshop and the award, this is their special way of encouraging those who are selfless in their service in developing sports in the grassroot. ####
