We Will Not Protest For You, UST Students Tells Gov. Amaechi

The executive Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi planned protest using students of Rivers State University of Science and technology Port Harcourt, hits a brick wall as students of the university count their social wounds inflicted by the governor.

Our sources from the university who pleaded for anonymity disclosed that the governor in his usual style sent his agents to mobilized students in their numbers for a planned protest against the continuous stay of the Commissioner of Police Rivers State, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu and the present State PDP exco.

They story said though the students are to be paid for their services, the students union and other factional leaders in the campus rejected the idea, saying that there is no need to embark on such protest because students were not given their constitutional right to defend their right citing the case of Prof. Fakae and the university authority.

Speaking with some leaders of the university who do not accept an official recording said the proposed protest plan by the governor is irrelevant and does not represent the true mandate of the students.

“On the ground that we as student can not be bought over to champion a selfish gratification of an individual, and if the governor feels that the course he is championing is the course of Rivers people, let the governor go to his political party who gave him the ticket to be governor of Rivers State to carry out his mandate because we as students cannot be use for political gains”.

These are the responses that crippled the proposed plan protest by the governor.

With the authorities of the university, the idea was not welcomed as they also counted their unfavourable blessings and packages by the Rivers State government on the disagreement between the state government and the authority of the university over Prof. Fakae’s removal it was also gathered that efforts are still on top gear to lobby the students and the University authority to accept the offer. ###
