Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari has urged members of the Rivers Youth Movement (RYM) not to sell their conscience but always abide by the truth at all times.
The Commissioner said this when the executive body of the RYM paid her a courtesy visit in her office recently in Port Harcourt. According to her “as we go towards the elections and as young people you are going to decide that you will defend your vote and that every vote must count and also when in 2015 they come to you and try to buy your conscience, tell them to go away because their mess of pottage is not enough for you to sell your birth right”.
Mrs. Semenitari noted that Rivers State Government will not engage people who do not have clear agenda for Rivers people but will always ensure that Rivers people get value for money and remain accountable only to God Almighty. She reiterated that Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi has done a lot for Rivers people in different sectors of the State adding “these are things that should make us proud as a group to tell us that we have a visionary leader that is changing the story of Rivers State and also have endorsed us on the map of the world”.
The Information boss advised RYM members to encourage youths in the State to shun violence and disengage from oil bunkering but teach them to work with their hands and earn money with the sweat of their brows. I promise to partner and support your initiative if it brings succour to young people, she said.
Earlier the President General of RYM worldwide, Engr. Richard Alete commended Mrs. Semenitari for her boldness and proactiveness in the State adding “you have made us proud as Commissioner for Information and Communications. We want to commend the Governor for making you Commissioner for Information and Communications”.
Engr. Alete noted that the reason for the visit is to partner with the Ministry and contribute to issues in the State. He condemned statements made by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Mbu describing the Governor as tyrant and a dictator and called on the C P to render unreserved apology to Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi and Rivers people.
“We want to condemn the statement made by Mr. Joseph Mbu on our Governor because the Governor is duly elected by people of Rivers State, an insult to the Governor is an insult to every Rivers people and so he must render unreserved apology”. Mr. Alete called for his redeployment.
