The unfortunate incident at the Rivers State House of Assembly last Tuesday has landed some lawmakers in the hospital. Chief among them being the leader of the Assembly, Hon. Chidi Lloyd and member representing Emohua constituency at the House.
The Newswriter gathered that Hon. Lloyd who was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Port Harcourt has continued to lick his wounds even as he alleged threat to life and that of his family members.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, Tuesday, Lloyd alleged that he was sitting on his seat for the day’s legislative business when Hon. Evans Bipi, the self-acclaimed speaker walked up to his seat raining blows on him.
A video clips on the incident however showed when Lloyd used the mace freely as a weapon to attack his perceived opponents while the fight lasted.
Gun-shots were reported in Port Harcourt Old Township Wednesday morning around Station, Hospital and Moscow Roads by yet to be identified persons, leaving people scampering for safety.
Our correspondent who roved round Port Harcourt, reported that crowd were seen gathering at the government house gate, possibly in solidarity to the governor on Tuesday’s ugly incident at the Assembly.
Anti-riot police officers he said were also seen stationed at strategic positions close to the Central Bank, Port Harcourt.
When contacted on phone on the shooting, the Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers State, DSP Angela Agabe denied knowledge of any shooting.
According to her, what was recorded Wednesday morning was large crowd at the gate of House of Assembly, which she said the police has dispersed.###
