Former Captain of Lawn Tennis in Port Harcourt Club Lawn Tennis section, Sir. Ernest Elochukwu has described Lawn Tennis as a gentleman game.
The charismatic lover of Lawn Tennis made this assertion during the inauguration of the Emma Obiora led Exco of the Lawn Tennis section, Port Harcourt Club 1928.
He also said that Lawn Tennis has a way of reflecting life to those who are playing the game, stressing that those who play lawn tennis become more discipline and gentle, giving reasons that the lawn tennis court is like the law court where nobody is encouraged to cheat his partner, as true justice will always emerge at the end of the play, because Lawn Tennis does not have a draw, there must be a winner at the end of the play and the players will come to face each other and have a handshake, meanwhile the trophy has been give to the winner.
According to him, that only signify that the winner who was given the trophy was not the winner in the true spirit of Lawn Tennis but the authentic winner is Lawn Tennis.
Sir. Elochukwu recounted his achievement during his tenure as captain of Lawn Tennis section, Port Harcourt club 1928.
Highlighting his achievements he said, he was able to brought infrastructural development with his exco, the spirit of Tennis playing according to him which is the main reason of their coming together as Lawn Tennis players in the Lawn Tennis section in Port Harcourt club 1928.
He further disclosed that his excos was able to encouraged lots of Lawn Tennis tournaments, foster the spirit of friendship, instil discipline and encouraged youths Lawn Tennis catch them young program through Stella Epegu and Hon. Tonye Harry.
He also disclosed that his tenure was able to assist the Rivers State government in hosting both state and national sports festivals with it facilities, stating also that it was his tenure as captain of Lawn Tennis section Port Harcourt club 1928 that the section entered into the East of the Niger sectional Lawn Tennis membership.
As one who is open minded and loves Lawn Tennis, he wants the game of Lawn Tennis grow hence he has advised the Emma Obiora led Exco to focus on anything that will make the game of Lawn Tennis grow. To achieve that he said, the new exco should reach out to corporate organizations for partnership, on his part, he said, he will talk with his groups of directors to sponsor lots of Lawn Tennis tournaments in the section. ###
