The Rivers State Local Government Service Commission has commenced Promotion Exercise for Senior Staff of the 23 Local Governments in the state on Monday, July 1 with AbualOdual, Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Governments.
This was disclosed recently in Port Harcourt by the Chairman of the Commission, Chief Azubuike Nmerukine JP, while briefing the Press after the Commission’s Regular Meeting.
Chief Nmerukini said that staff of Akuku-Toru, Andoni and Asari-Toru Local Government Areas have been interviewed on Tuesday, July 2, while staffers of Bonny, Degema and Eleme Local Governments had been their on turn on Wednesday, July 3.
He said staff of Emohua, Etche and Gokana Local Governments would be interviewed on Thursday, July 4 and that on Friday, July 5 the Commission would interview staff of Ikwerre, Khana and Obio/Akpor Local Governments.
On Monday, July 8 according to the Chairman staff due for promotion from Okrika, Omuma and OgbalEgbema/Ndoni Local Governments would have their turn and on Tuesday, July 9 Ogu/Bolo, Oyigbo and Tai Local Government Area would appear before the Commission for their promotion exercise.
Chief Nmerukini stated that the Commission has set aside Wednesday, July 10, for staff of Opobo/Nkoro and Port Harcourt Local Governments, adding that all spill over case for local governments if any, would be treated from Thursday 11 to Friday, July 12.
The Chairman explained that all conversion and upgrading cases would be treated alongside with the promotion scheduled for each Local Government and said that the exercise would take place at the Port Harcourt City Council Hall between 8am and 4pm each day.
He advised all staff coming for the interview to come along with originals and photocopies of their credentials which should include letters of first appointment and confirmation of appointment, evidence of success of compulsory examination or professional certificates and all past promotion letters.
Chief Nmerukini further advised staff to report for the interview with their academic qualifications including First School Leaving Certificate, Birth Certificate or Age Declaration at the time of employment, letters of approval of study programme and conversion letters.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission has assured that the on-going promotion exercise for senior staff of the Unified Local Government Service of the Third Tier Government would be conducted strictly in accordance with to the service rule.
This assurance was given in Port Harcourt by the Chairman of the Commission, Chief Azubuike Nmerukini JP while address staff of the Abua/Odual, Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Governments during the promotion exercise at the Port Harcourt City Council Hall.
Chief Nrnerukini disclosed that the Commission would apply the rule which says “any staff who do not possess Ordinary National Diploma, especially those in the Executive Cadre will not be promoted beyond Salary Grade Level 07”.
The Chairman said that “the era of promoting any one who completes three years in the service is gone”, saying that hard work and efficiency would henceforth be the yardstick for promotion
He declared “it is no more business as usual as the Commission is now poised to encourage diligence and dedication to duty as necessary tools to promote productivity in the service.
Chief Nmerukini said “the stand of the commission is to verify all certificates presented before the promotion panel with relevant institutions of learning and advised all those with fake certificates to stay clear to avoid unpleasant action against them”. ###
