In line with the national three day warning strike action of resident doctors who are part of the major workforce in Hospitals has ended, as the minister of Health, Chairman senate committee on health, national assembly and national body of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) steps into the matter towards ensuring that the proposed 21 day strike those not come to pass.
Chairman, South-South Forum and Rivers State chapter of Nigeria Medical Association Dr. Ibitrokoemie Korubo who dropped the hint while chatting with news men in Port-Harcourt said that the national body of NMA led by the National President Dr. Osahun Enabulele are working together towards ensuring that the initial problem that led to the strike will not occur again.
He equally stated that NMA as a body does not believe that strikes are the best way out and they are not comfortable with it because when doctors strikes, a lot of things will go wrong, saying that strike is not a good things, he however assured that, all issues have been solved.
According to him “NMA nation wide which is now known as a unique leadership body and style, all the leadership under the national body has followed the line of the national body, now that the resident doctors have gotten attention, I will advice them and as well appeal to them to catch up with the new vision of the NMA, because the action resident doctors took was out of frustration because I understand their plight. “
The problem of this country is always the failure to bring the people to dialogue table, because it is unfortunate that in Nigeria we are still at the old way of negotiations, its a shame that the only way you can get attention is strike. Korubo said.
He further said that, ” on the side of the NMA, the resident doctors are part of us, and they are under us, so as the Chairman of South-South Forum, and Rivers State NMA, I went to Edo State to see how I could step in and reduce the plight of doctors, am sure the problem is solved as at this situation.”
