Kwashi Thompson Plans Nationwide Grassroot Programme

The patron of Rivers State Handball Association and Vice President Handball Federation of Nigeria, Barr. Kwashi Thompson has said that he has the intention of influencing nationwide grassroot handball  programme.

He made this statement while answering questions from sports journalists at the Port Harcourt club 1928 lawn tennis new exco inauguration on 13th June, 2013.

To achieve this aim, he said he intends bringing European handball recorded tape to the local TV stations for the general public viewing free of change, in order that the public will know much about the game of Handball as to learn it and appreciate it.

The active passionate lover of Handball stated that he is a grassroot person taking from his programme he had initiated in the game through grassroot participation, disclosing that the south-south NDDC Niger Delta youths Handball programme was his initiation which produce one o f the best Handball team that even featured in the world handball youths championship.

According to him, one of his reason of going to the national level is to develop grassroot handball. He noted that grassroot to him means developing handball talents from the scratch. Saying that talents are abound everywhere in the grassroot, hence he embark on from 0-10 school age grassroot school NDDC Handball programme.

He hinted that effort produced a quality U-14 handball team that played their European counterpart in the Handball world youths championship and reached the quarter final stage.

To develop the game of Handball, he said depend on the grassroot where all the talents are abound, stressing that any country in the world that fail to take grassroot development, according to him, has not started. Hence all his Handball programmes are keyed into grassroot development of the game. ###
