RSG Threatens To Shut Ikokwu Spare Parts Market

 Plans are underway by the Rivers State Government to shut down the popular Ikokwu motor spare parts market situated long Olusegun Obasanjo road in the Port Harcourt metropolis due to the uncooperative attitude of the users in cleaning the area.

In a chat with journalists during this month environmental sanitation exercise in Port Harcourt, Mr. Ade Adeogun the sole Administrator of the Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority who spoke through his media assistant, Mr. Olalekan Ige frowned at the attitude of the spare parts dealers in the sanitation exercise pointing out that the closing of the market would serve as deterrent to others.

According to him, the management of the market has refuse to direct their members to participate in the sanitation exercise thereby making the area very dirty stressing that the market has not help matters.

He further lamented that residents of Azikiwe Street in Diobu axis was another group that is uncooperative in the sanitation exercise as most children in the area join other youths to play football on the street during sanitation hours describing it as uncalled for.

On how many defaulters that were arrested during the sanitation hours, he disclosed  that about 90% defaulters of the sanitation exercise has been arrested and urged resident of Port Harcourt to always cooperate with the authority to ensure clean environment in the state.

On the constant dropping of sand along Abuloma road by tippers owned by dredging company, Mr. Ige disclosed that the authority has concluded plans to hold meeting with the resident of Abuloma and the dredging company aimed at finding solution in that regard to ensure clean environment in the area.

The Chairman of the community Development Committee CDC Aboloma Mr. Robert Inimian who expressed joy on the intervention of the sanitation authority on the flooding matter in the area stressed that the residents of the area would cooperate with the official of the authority and the state government to tackle the problem.

He further disclosed that the resident of the area has concluded arrangement to open another dumping site to compliment government effort in that regard.

The places the team visited includes Abuloma, Amadi-Ama, D/line, Ojoto,Azikiwe, Ikokwu axis among others. ###
