The Chairman of Gokana Local Government Council, Hon. Demue Ledee Demue had said the council will partner the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Gokana to improve on the security in the area.
Hon. Demue made the remark at the dedication service of PCRC Gokana chapter sent forth and reception of CSP Joseph Ibezim former DPO and CSP Ike Nwogu on Sunday 16th June, 2013 at the council Headquarters Kpor, respectively.
The council boss stated that he will work hand in glove with PCRC to bring a new dimension to the security challenges in Gokana especially for the propagation of peace while encouraging them to embark on sensitization and mobilization with a view of bringing credible members into the body.
He frowns at the situation where some communities selected questionable character as youth president which is counter productive.
In his opening remark the chairman of the occasion, Hon. Baatee Bazari commended those who supported the event especially the council chairman and called for others to financially support the PCRC so that they can meet up the task at hand.
Hon. Bazari advised that the new officers of PCRC should see themselves as peace makers who are ready to ensure communities within the LGA maintain a peaceful co-existence amongst themselves.
In his welcome address the chairman of the PCC Gokana chapter comrade Samuel Nadueba said thanksgiving and dedication of the body to God will pave way for God to intervene in the crises or any difficult situation of the people.
Comrade Nadueba maintained that the PCRC concept of community policing is an indispensable tool for the sustenance of peace and security.
He condemned the increasing rate of crimes within some communities especially the clandestine communal clash between the K. Dere and B. Dere communities.
The Chairman PCRC Gokana said the body will organize leadership seminars, community policing safety, conflict management and the sensitization to community youth leaders to strengthen surveillance in the area.
In an interview shortly after the event the member representing Gokana in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Innocent Barikor said the Gokana people have risen to the crises situation and decided to do everything possible to bring peace to the area.
On the plan to end the communal crises, Hon. Barikor said the body has put in place credible measures to end the dehumanization and the killing of innocent soul in the area.
Highlight of the event was send-forth of the former DPO in charge of Gokana CPS Joseph Ibezim and the reception for the new DPO to Gokana CSP Ike Nworgu.
CPS Joseph Ibezim have earlier thanked the people of Gkana for the honour done to him while tasking them to extend the same fellowship to the new DPO. ###
