In the face of the current political impasse in Rivers State, Traditional Rulers have appealed for peace among the different agitating groups.
A statement signed by the Chairman, Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, King Godwin Gininwa said, the Traditional Rulers have watched with great concern the unfolding political development which is centred around “our sons, and would not fold hands as the fire burns.”
It went further to say that royal fathers as custodians of peace are disturbed by the constant media rivalry among parties involved and called on all well meaning people of Rivers State to rise up in defence of peace and good brotherliness as chaos and political wrangling will do the state no good.
According to the Traditional Rulers, an African adage says, “That elders cannot stay at home while a goat gives birth with a rope on her neck”. Therefore as the process of restoration of peace is currently going on, we urge the various groups in this political disagreement to embrace dialogue for the good and development of Rivers State, the statement maintained.
