ACN Warns Against Unguided Utterances

The Rivers State Chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, says the current political atmosphere in the state calls for caution.

The ACN was reacting to the rain of provocative languages, unguided and inciting statements by certain politicians and government officials while commenting on the political developments in the state.

A statement issued and signed by the party’s publicity secretary, Jerry Needam took particular exception to the way and manner Mrs Ibim Semenitari, Information and Communications Commissioner addresses the Rivers populace as though they are a people without commonsense.

Jerry Needam said, granted that Mrs Semenitari is under pressure to redeem the rapidly dwindling fortunes of her boss, she should go about the task in the most civilized manner without being insultive.

The ACN spokesman, therefore demanded an unreserved apology from the Information Commissioner for calling responsible protesting youths of Obio/Akpor who lawfully besieged the State House of Assembly Complex to make case for the suspended council chairman and councilors touts and miscreants.

Jerry Needam wondered what made the Obio/Akpor protesting youths miscreants and a faction of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) who were earlier sponsored to a solidarity visit to Government House in favour of Gov Amaechi missionaries.

“We have been following the current political happenings in the state with keen interest and wish to note that there is nothing in the entire saga that is new. While the PDP should enhance efforts to put its house in order, the gladiators and supporters of the divides should conduct themselves and must not carry on as though the entire state belongs to PDP or do anything that is capable of constituting danger to the innocent Rivers people. Rivers people are reasonable and responsible people and not touts or miscreants. This wrong notion should be retracted forthwith”, the ACN warned.
