Environmental Health Workers in the State have been urged to maintain proper and effective environmental management in their Local Government Areas.
Addressing Environmental Health Officers at 2013 first Quarter review meeting in Port Harcourt, the Executive Secretary of Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, Dr. Claribel Abam said that their role is pivotal in the health care delivery programme of the State.
Dr. Abam stressed the need for health workers to be committed to their jobs and ensure that proper sanitary conditions are maintained in people’s home and business places, as to reduce the incidences of diseases.
She advised the Health workers to see themselves as key players in the actualization of the State Government policy on healthcare delivery.
Dr. Abam adviced them to shun acts that are detrimental to the general health and well being of the people by adhering to laid down operational guideline in the course of their duty.
Also speaking the Director Occupational and Environmental Health at the Board Dr. Nduye Briggs who emphasized the need for them to keep appropriate itinerary of place covered, ensure accurate data collection and submission.
Responding, one of the participants and State President, Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Wecheonwu Reuben who lauded the initiative of the Board appealed to the management to always consult the Health Officers on polices concerning them before they are made. ####
