JAMB Centers In Rivers State Peaceful – Ofuru

The various centers in Rivers State used for the last Saturday’s Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) were peaceful.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education Mr. Richard Oforu dropped the hint while speaking to Journalists at the College of Arts and Science, Rumuola, Port Harcourt after an inspection of the various centers used for the examination. The Perm Sec told our correspondent that this year’s JAMB was conducted with decorum at all the centers and that shows a lot of improvement.

He said a place like College of Arts and Science, the students were comfortably sited, and the examination hall was spacious which means there was a proper arrangement. Mr. Oforu stated that some of the private schools used for the examination have accommodation challenges as students can not sit comfortably and write well under such condition, even where some of the smaller spaces contained 30 students a situation he described as unacceptable.

The Permanent Secretary said the JAMB coordinator Rivers State was informed that some of those centers should not be use next time, rather they should locate to other places with good hall for the purpose of conducive environment next year. He maintained that this year’s examination was peaceful and so far no report of examination malpractice as at the time of filling this report.

On the area of proper identification of student, the education guru stated that JAMB should at least install two identification machines at the various centers to check students as to eliminate impersonation.

The Perm. Sec Ministry of Education said a back-up identification machine will ensure that students write their exam early without delay. Asked whether the inspection was done by JAMB or Ministry of Education, he said JAMB normally collaborate with the ministry of education for the monitoring and supervision and the Hon Commissioner for Education will be the chief monitor in the state but she was engaged at the convocation at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology UST, Port Harcourt. The Ministry of Education also monitored other JAMB centers all over the state according to the permanent secretary Ministry of Education. ###
