The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and control (NAFDAC) said it has rewarded secondary school students in south-south at the 10th annual competition of NAFDAC Consumer Safety Club (NCSC).
Director General of NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii who was represented by the state coordinators in Rivers, Edo and Cross Rivers states restated the determination of the Agency to vigorously sustain the fight against counterfeit drugs, unwholesome and other regulated products.
“NAFDAC would constantly continue to resist the activities of unscrupulous elements in the society who wish to acquire wealth at the expense of the lives of our citizens with every legal, technological and social instrument in her arsenals,” Orhii stated.
Some of the strategies he said include: “cutting edge technological device such as truscan, Mobile Authentication Service (MAS) Black Eye (infrared), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and minilab, while NAFDAC is embarking in ‘catching them young’ initiative as a way of inculcating the culture of quality in our young people, who will in turn propagate these values to their families and the general public”.
In Rivers State, Master Adebayo Shalvah of Federal Government College, Port Harcourt emerged top in the senior category, while Graceland International School Port Harcourt represented by Miss Adanna Ihejirika worn the competition in the junior category.
The Edo State’s competition was won by Uwejeya Betty Ogbenefegor of the University Preparatory Secondary School, Benin City and Okwugbowa David of Immaculate Conception College, Benin City in the junior category who was tied in the first position while Agbadudu Eseoghene of University of Benin Demonstration School, Benin City emerged tops in the senior category.
In Cross River State, Gifted International College, Calabar represented by Stella Iwot James emerged top in the junior category, while Ufot Etieno Mfon of Saint Patrick College, Calabar won the first position in the senior category. Prizes were presented to all the winners (from 1st to 3rd position) in all the states.
The Chairman of the occasion in Cross River State, Mr. Inyang Bassey and the Corporate Social Manager of Unicem, lauded NAFDAC for its vision in sensitizing the youths on the menace of fake, counterfeit, substandard and unwholesome regulated products, urging the students to aim at winning the competition at the national level.
The Consumers Safety Club (NCSC) competition, instituted by NAFDAC in selected schools in the country was aimed at propagating the Agency’s message in schools and engendering healthy competition among youths.
The award ceremony in the various states was characterized by variety shows such as debate, dancing and drama by the participating schools. ###
