Power Supply: Apologize To Rivers People ~ ACN

The Rivers State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has called on the State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi to fulfill his promise to deliver 24 hour power supply to the people of the State.

ACN charges Gov. Amaechi to apologize to the people of Rivers State rather than blaming the Power Commissioner for failure in the power supply in the State.

The party has also urged the governor to stop passing blame, and take full responsibility for his failure to deliver on his promise.

The party, in a press statement signed by its publicity secretary, Jerry Needam, was reacting to the call by Governor Amaechi on his Power Commissioner to resign, for failure to deliver regular power supply to the State.

The party said “It will serve Governor Amaechi better if he fulfils his myriad of promises and ends the cynicism of the people about his administration. “Governor Amaechi who has refused to release funds as at when due to the Ministry of Power should not blame anybody, but rather should take aggressive steps to ensure steady power supply as he promised. He should stop passing the blame and looking at somewhere else. Amaechi is the problem,” ACN said.

According to the ACN, “Power supply is critical to development of the State, looking for who to blame, after he has made several unfilled promises to the people is self-serving and deceitful”.

The basic objective of development is to create an enabling environment in which the people can enjoy regular power supply.

“Government’s business therefore, is to bring about development to its citizens by ensuring that there is regular power supply’, the ACN stressed.

The ACN revealed that contrary to the position of Governor Amaechi, considerable funds have not been committed to the power sector.

Another disturbing aspect, according to the ACN, is the use of Governor Amaechi’s ‘briefcase political friends’ within and outside the state to execute juicy contracts in the Ministry of Power.

This development, according to the ACN, has affected operations of the Ministry of Power, as the Ministry lacks the political will to call Amaechi’s political friends who were awarded contracts to order.
